Will it last forever?
Man is like grass
This is what the bible says, "A voice says, 'Cry out.' And I said, 'What shall I cry?' 'All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field. 7 The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are grass. 8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever'" (Isaiah 40:6-8)
God says that all men are like grass. Man is like grass obviously means he will not live long. Moses said, "Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away."(Psalm 90:10) Even though man knows he will only live to be a seventy or eighty year at the most, he does not think about it seriously. If a person lives to be that old, he usually feels like it is pointless to continue living. All he can think of is that things are not how it used to be. Moses said, man may live to be seventy years, or eighty, if his strength endures, all that is left are but trouble and sorrow. It is very true. If one reaches the age of eighty, he is no longer capable of functioning physically and mentally. Factories and offices will not think about hiring the man. However, because man does not understand, he is still looking to fulfill what his physical body demands. That goes on until he actually dies.
God said, the glory of man is like a flower in the forest. Pursuing education, degrees and honors are only but wild flowers. It's true also for beauty and fame. However, with great hope for those things, people are still striving to achieve these goals. Even though they see older people who can no longer be useful, people still cannot see and learn the lessons. Therefore, people are trying their best to reach their desired goal. It is sad.
But Moses wrote: "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." (Psalm 90:12) What does it mean to number one's days? Everyone knows how to count his age. What Moses meant was for man to spend his life productively. How does one use his life productively and effectively? One can use his life by spending his time according to the will of the one who created him. God has set the life of man to be seventy and eighty years. But that span of life is only for his physical body. The life span of man's spirit is longer. In fact, the life of his spirit is eternal. While man lives in his physical body, he need to choose the place where his spirit will live forever. But man does not understand God's advice and cannot accept it. Although it is said that the expected life of the body is seventy years, not everyone would lives that long. The death of man's body can occur inside his mother's womb, or it can be at any moment during his lifetime. Because man's physical life can end at any moment, it is important to choose earlier on the place where his spirit will spend eternally.
The wise and those with spiritual eyes, choose the eternal life given by God before the end of their physical life. Eternal life is not self-made. It can only be had if God gives it to the person. Christ said, "What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?" (Matthew 16:26) However, most people do not pay attention to the warning of Christ. Instead of thinking about the life of their souls, they are attached to the world. Because he is preoccupied with the things of the world, man does not care about the well-being of his spirit. How sad, miserable and awful!. Hopefully, everyone choose eternal life before his or her uncertain physical life ends.
The body is just dust
The psalmist said, "As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;14 for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. 15 The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; 16 the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.17 But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children—" (Psalm 103:13-17)
The psalmist said that human body is but dust. The body is the shell, and the seed or the core is the spirit. Why is that everyone is fond of only the shell, and does not live for the core, which is their spirit? The reason is because they do not know the core. Because people are spiritually blind, they give too much priority to their body. In reality, the true being of a man is his spirit. No matter how much you take care of your body, It will fail one day. But the spirit will live forever. Therefore, I would like to advise you to live for your spirit that will live forever. So, from now on, let us work and live for the only thing that will last forever?
